Georgia Introduces New Nomad Residence Permit for IT Specialists

Starting September 1, 2025, Georgia has launched a new “Nomad Residence Permit” designed for IT professionals. The permit is valid for three years but will be revoked if the holder does not spend at least 183 days in the country within 12 months. Family members of IT workers are also eligible.

Requirements for Employed IT Specialists

  • Completed application form with labor migrant registration code (issued by the Ministry of Labor of Georgia)
  • Copy of passport
  • Proof of legal stay in Georgia
  • Evidence of IT-related work or economic activity for at least two years
  • Income certificate showing at least $25,000 earned from IT work in the past year, received in at least two separate payments with a minimum 30-day interval
  • Electronic color photo (¾ format)
  • Payment of government fee

Requirements for Self-Employed IT Specialists

  • Completed application form
  • Proof of small business status and IT activity
  • Copy of passport
  • Proof of legal stay in Georgia
  • Evidence of IT-related work or economic activity for at least two years
  • Income certificate showing at least $25,000 earned from IT work in the past year, received in at least two separate payments with a minimum 30-day interval
  • Electronic color photo (¾ format)
  • Payment of government fee

The application form can be downloaded and filled out in advance. Processing times and fees are:

  • Standard – 90 days for 500 GEL (about $180 USD)
  • Expedited – 60 days for 750 GEL (about $270 USD)

If approved, the residence permit is valid for up to three years.

To maintain this status, permit holders and their families must live in Georgia for more than 183 days per year. A criminal record certificate is requested less often, but it’s still recommended to have one ready.
