Statistics From Recent Years

Temperatures in Tbilisi are still holding above 28°C (82°F), but as a famous TV series once said — winter is coming. In just about four months, the mountain resorts will be in full swing for skiers and snowboarders. For now, let’s take a look at some interesting statistics on Gudauri — when the ski season officially started there in recent years. After all, many people plan their vacations well in advance.

  • 2024–2025: The season opened on December 21. Winter brought plenty of snow, especially starting in February. Even on April 17, the official closing day, enthusiasts could still enjoy the slopes.
  • 2023–2024: Heavy snowfalls began in December, and the lifts started running on December 15. The season closed on April 21, with more than enough snow left for skiing.
  • 2022–2023: December was almost snowless. The lifts opened on December 27, but only for walking tours in the surrounding mountains. The Gudaura slope (one of the most popular) opened only on January 13 with artificial snow covering the trails.
  • March 8, 2021: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the resort opened only during the March holidays. That year, snow conditions in Gudauri were excellent.
  • 2019–2020: Marked by the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • 2018–2019: The season suffered from insufficient snowfall.
  • Other Years: Starting from 2015, Gudauri had generally early openings and reliable snowfall.

Gudauri is the closest and largest ski resort to Tbilisi. The drive from the capital takes about 2.5 hours by car, making it a popular day-trip destination for skiing and snowboarding during the season.
